Notes (3)

  1. 1The headword is an adverb from e)/tos "year" with a demonstrative prefix *ky-, which appears in Attic and Doric dialects as t-, but s- in Ionic. (The word is attested in Mycenean as za-we-te (tsawetes): see Chantraine s.v.) It is given here in two forms, th=tes and th=ta. Minus th=ta (which seems to be attested only here), this = Synagoge tau167 and Photius, Lexicon tau271 Theodoridis; cf. also e.g. Phrynichus, Hesychius tau240 and tau824, Harpokration tau12 Keaney (citing fragments of Lysias and Aristophanes). ↩
  2. 2Aristophanes, Clouds 623-4 -- but read gela=t' (imperative "laugh") and laxw\n *(uperbo/los in the nominative with a participle. On Hyperbolos see upsilon 245. On hieromnemones see iota 182, iota 183, and pi 3158. ↩
  3. 3From a scholion on Aristophanes, Acharnians 15 (where th=tes occurs). ↩
