Translation

[Meaning] I turn round my back.1
Also [sc. attested is the aorist infinitive] nwti/sai, [meaning] to drive away.2 From a metaphor of those presenting their backs in flight.

Greek original · Adler’s text

Νωτίζω· τὰ νῶτα μεταστρέφω. καὶ Νωτίσαι, ἀπελάσαι. ἀπὸ μεταφορᾶς τῶν τὰ νῶτα διδόντων ἐν ταῖς φυγαῖς.

Notes (2)

  1. 1Backs, in the Greek (though not English) idiom. Similar glossing, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon. ↩
  2. 2Sophocles, Oedipus Tyrannus 193 (where this aorist infinitive occurs with a cognate accusative), with scholion. See web address 1. ↩
