Notes (2)

  1. LSJ s.v. i(pph/latos lists several phrases which include this adjective, but not the present one. It is in fact attested (but with the word-order reversed) in the comments of grammarians and scholiasts on Homer, Iliad 8.58, where 'all the gates [sc. of Troy] were opened' (web address 1). However, the Suda's gloss -- see next note -- is unparalleled.
  2. 1The pluperfect tense of this gloss is striking; a specific episode? ↩
  3. 2From the scholia to Homer, Iliad 5.749 (web address 2). ↩
