Notes

  1. = Hesychius pi784, Synagoge, Lexica Segueriana 332.4, Photius pi358 Theodoridis.
    The headword is masculine accusative singular or neuter nominative/accusative singular of the adjective parei/saktos. LSJ s.v. notes e.g. its attestation (in Strabo 17.1.8) as a nickname of king Ptolemy XI, regarded as an usurper; and both the adjective and the related verb pareisa/gw regularly have implications of covert or improper importation. (In the Suda see again at sigma 1295, and cf. e.g. Galatians 2.4.) The present instance is taken to be quoted from Gregory of Nazianzus, Orations 31.21 (PG 36.156c): ou) ce/non tou=to, ou)de\ parei/sakton.
