Translation
"[This is [characteristic] of a man] with intelligence and wits and who has sailed around a lot, to roll himself always to the successful side rather than to stand like a painted image, taking [sc. only] one position. Meaning, of [a man] who accomplishes nothing, inasmuch as what is drawn on the image is immovable. But "having sailed around" [means] having been involved in everything. [It is] like [the expression] in Euripides' Alcmene: "for I never allowed Sthenelos, when he went to the fortunate side [sc. of the ship], to rob [me] of justice."1
