Alternatively, calculation/account is a name for scrutiny.2

Notes (5)

  1. For this headword in another sense see lambda 649.
  2. 1Quotation not identified by Adler but identifiable via the TLG as an approximation of Procopius, Secret History 5.4 (web address 1), on Belisarius in Italy (544-549); cf. Kaldellis (23). See on this Theodoridis' Photius edition, vol.II p.XCIV. Justinian (cf. iota 446) had provided no financial support for Belisarius's second Italian campaign. While carefully avoiding any engagement with Totila (cf. tau 879), the ill-equipped Byzantine general plundered Ravenna and Sicily on the pretext that it was retribution for their past support of the Goths. On Belisarius, see generally beta 233. ↩
  3. 2Attributed by Wentzel to a rhetorical source (so Adler). ↩
  4. 3Quotation unidentifiable. ↩
  5. 4Quotation unidentifiable. ↩
  6. 5In fact Sophocles: Chrysothemis in Electra 466-467 (with comment from the scholia there). The connection of this passage to the foregoing is indirect: the noun used is lo/gos (cf. LSJ s.v., III.2), not logismo/s. ↩
