Translation

"Macrinus the emperor,1 with an indulgent and luxuriant life for himself, betraying the extra expense of his indulgence, used to commit murders of innocent men."2 That is, something eaten in addition to the regular meal.

Notes (2)

  1. 1As Adler notes, the Suda incorrectly names Emperor Marcus Opellius Macrinus (cf. OCD(4) s.v.). The correct reference is to Emperor Marcus Aurelius Carinus (cf. kappa 391, where the present passage already appears; delta 1205; epsilon 133; mu 83; upsilon 15; and OCD(4) s.v.), who reigned in the west, 283-285. ↩
  2. 2John of Antioch fr.162 FHG (4.600), now 246 Roberto. ↩
