Translation

[Meaning] a murderer.1
Colloquially applied to the serpent, for the animal drinks blood. Also to the sausage-seller, for they fill intestines and sausages with a mixture of blood and lard and barley. A blood-drinker, then, is one who consumes blood and, in a manner of speaking, gulps it down.2
[Spelled] with omega, like u(dropw/ths ["water-drinker"].3

Notes (3)

  1. 1Likewise in ps.-Zonaras and, according to Adler, the Ambrosian Lexicon; and cf. in any event alphaiota 207. ↩
  2. 2From the scholia to Aristophanes, Knights 198, where the headword occurs. ↩
  3. 3cf. upsilon 62 (where however u(dropo/ths is spelled with omicron). ↩
